Letter S Learning Fun

This week we enjoyed Letter S Learning Fun! Even though we took off a few days to enjoy an unexpected visit from the boy’s Papa!

It is perfect timing to do T next week for Thanksgiving. I wish I had planned it that way, but honestly … I’m not that smart to plan that far of a year out, and totally undisciplined to stick to that schedule!

Shaving Cream S

So … we’re on letter S and I can’t believe I finally remembered to do this one, whoops. The boy absolutely loved it! Trace the letter in a shallow dish of (cheap) shaving cream. I used one of those baking tins – cause I like things easy and contained. Even the boy wanted to play sculpt in it.

Hydrating Soil

We just got this neat Science Kit, Nature Series: Science on a Garden Adventure. The first experiment is to hydrate soil pellets. Super easy – thankfully.  Notice more baking tins “someone” got them on s, s, sale.

Throw in the From Seed to Plant library book to go along with our science this week (which ultimately goes along with our Apologia Botany lessons for the boy).  We’ll be planting seeds soon!

I am happy the boys are both working on a subject together.  Confession … I haven’t done that much preschool science this year.

Add 12 other “S” books and you have one happy preschooler. (Instagram)

Flash Cards

After cleaning up our old shelves for the new ones the boy constructed – we set up our Tabletop Pocket Chart and Letter S Learning Fun flash cards.

Star Window Art

I created a tissue star paper cut out because I’m reviewing Star of Bethlehem Family Unit Study by Kerry Beck with the boy.

This is an interesting study discovering the Star of Bethlehem.  First we learned the difference of astronomy vs astrology.  My son and I were surprised there are so many clear warnings in the bible concerning God’s feelings about astrology.

The lesson naturally lead into a healthy discussion of how easy it is to fall into a trap of worshiping Creation rather than the Creator.  I was thankful the study encouraged my son to share concerns about idolatry in his heart.  Which is an appropriate conversation for a 9yr old who is constantly pressured into believing he needs the latest Lego toys and electronics.

We read of God’s perfect timing and powerful control over the Universe.

I’m not going to share the rest of the study, because you’ll be amazed at what is explained in an astronomy lesson and the book of Revelation! Kerry Beck does a stellar job presenting this information for our children!

Letter R Learning Fun

Letter R is so much fun, here are a few Letter R Learning Fun Ideas we did this week!

We made a robot out of a box and a few supplies! Empty box, tape, paper towel tubes, construction paper, and metal do-hickies from hubs’ tool box.  I think they’re weights or something in the screws department.

We watched The Backyardigans: Robot Repairman

Little man painted Big R & little r’s on your tile floor – we should have used red. Nice after thought.

please please please if you’re going to do this – use Washable Paints! I can not guarantee any other paint will come up!

Or dye shaving cream red with food coloring and let littles paint R’s in the bath tub (super fun)

Letter R Learning Fun

Turn Letter R into something else! We chose a rain cloud.

I printed the DLTK Letter R Template and little man glued cotton balls and blue tissue paper. You can check out our Letter R rain cloud on Instagram.

We grabbed a big stack of R books from the library! (after another library fine, doot)

Then made Letter R – with play doh, legos, blocks, and raisins! (sometimes it’s okay to play with your food!)

We also built Letter R with our Letter Construction Activity Set <– a favorite preschool resource!

Little man opened the goodies in the Alphabet Soup Sorters <– another favorite preschool resource!

Homeschool Creations has a few great Letter R printables – we love her Robot Preschool Pack!

Letter P Pinterest Crafts

We had so much fun making Letter P Pinterest Crafts this week!

I’ve been using pinterest all wrong!  I was pinning “great ideas” I had no intentions of making.  Now I’m pinning our next week’s 7:30 Crafts.  Now you can be sure the stuff we’re pinning we’re making!

Since we have yet to move on from wonderful letter P … I incorporated some P crafts.

Letter P Pinterest Crafts

P is for Pumpkin Painting – loved how acrylic paint on pumpkins turned out on Pinterest … we gave it a try.  5 pumpkins later I may or may not be totally addicted!  *these were definitely not 7:30 Crafts – we did them together!

P is for Pumpkins - I found a container of Pumpkin foam crafts 1/2 off at Micheal’s! The boy spent a few days making “love cards” for his friends. And one get well card for me. (this is not a Pinterest find, just a lucky store find)

P is for  Pumpkin Patchfound another Pinterest easy idea, egg carton pumpkin patch.  Ours is still drying & waiting for faces, but you can see the one I found.

P is for Play Doh Porcupines
I couldn’t find a porcupine craft I liked on Pinterest! {gasp} So we made our own. Easy! Grab play doh, wiggle eyes, and break raw spaghetti. This child kept asking for more more more spaghetti!  We also discussed how quills do not “shoot” out of their bodies like tv has shown.  We read about small rodents from our World of Animals book – I love this book!  (if you haven’t read my review you should, this is a GREAT resource!)

P is for Play Doh Teeth –  I found a construction paper tooth template, so the boy made a similar one. We folded the “gums” so it stands 3D-like.  Then he made the play doh tooth (because we actually had the right colors … for once).

Don’t forget to print our free Preschool Letter P Hunt !
