Balancing

I attended the “homeschool & blogging” break out session during … a conference I attended not so long ago and was slightly disappointed it was not packed full of helpful tips considering that the room was full of women hungry for some direction how to balance it all.
get it – I’m balancing my blog ? =)
I’ve only been homeschooling & blogging for the last four years – but I have two personal blogs, maintain a homeschool community, and contribute to two other sites … it’s only possible with some structure!  Here is a list of tips that I believe are helpful for everyone !
not looking at our stats !!

Your kid’s education, character, self confidence & love outweigh any blog post you can / will could ever write!  Invest in them more than your blog !

YOU MANAGE YOUR BLOG – it does not manage you ! Set the pace – decide what you will / not do & stick to it

Are you using your spiritual gifts – in homeschool &/or blogging to glorify God? Everything is smoother when we do !

Satan loves distractions. find out what you’re good at & do it. Be a mile deep & inch wide – not vice versa

Use memes it’s structured blogging, free pr, community, & accountability.

If we want our kids to live up to a higher standard we need to model it 1st – work 1st play later !

Be a tweet phantom – schedule tweets, do not try to out win twitter and avoid getting buried. walk away!

Comment the right way NOT right away. reply to comments (a day or 2 after posts) knock it out all at once!

Set boundaries! schedule writing time, homeschool time, quiet time, play time, bed time, posts, etc.

Make lists use timers. Don’t randomly get online. be intentional, get work done (for homeschool planning or blogging)

Buy notebooks / use voicemail always have an idea going. sit down to type not waste time laboring over the birth of a post.  If you do not have an idea or post partially created – don’t sit down until you do!  Always have 3-5 brain storming ideas / posts saved as draft.

Become a planning fool. Plan lessons, posts, menu, chores, errands, etc. Get/print a planner & use it!  (free weekly assignment sheet from Five J’s)
