I think with our modern language and slang we lose a great deal of quality words. I feel “abide” is one of those words.
I had never heard this word growing up and I’m a little bummed the NIV has removed majority of it from the bible.
Abide: verb, to endure without yielding – to remain stable or fixed in a state
If we had to measure our level of ability to abide, how would you say you’re doing? This isn’t a legalistic test to see if one believer can abide better than another.
If you abide in Christ, His Word, are you a long term owner or a short term renter? Lord help us to abide in You!
Pursue the Word: Abide
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. John 15:4
Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. 1 John 2:24
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12
Sometimes we might get this abiding thing backwards.
Wives can abide in their spouse – and it’s his job to make me happy.
Moms in their children – and only their world matters.
Women in their looks – and starve themselves for beauty.
Homeschoolers in their curriculum – and I die to a schedule.
Bloggers in their numbers – and when they drop I am discouraged.
Friend, abide in Jesus!

I’m abiding with you. I have been using the Jesus Calling book lately a lot. It is really about slowing down, finding peace in His presence. To do that, you have to be mindful of Him throughout the whole day, recognizing when your thoughts, reactions are going in a direction contrary to the peace of His presence. This is an abiding in Him. Getting back on that place where He is.
