Last year was the first year I had ever used Apologia curriculum.
I picked Flying Creatures of the 5th Day because my son loves bats and raptors. Who knew by the end of the year we’d all end up becoming bird lovers!
At first I was surprised how much reading was required of me. I wasn’t thrilled with that … at all! I was hoping as our homeschool years progressed the boy would have more work alone curriculum. However - I have grown to love the side-by-side quality time.
The work is thorough and continually pointing back to the Creator – Jeannie Fulbright has done an amazing job with this curriculum! We all learned so much about birds and insects! We also incorporated a few field trips to local zoos and bird rescue centers – which worked amazing well alongside the notebook.
Who knows how long we’ll live in Orlando, but if we’re here we might as well get use of the biggest “aquarium” in town! We’re all really looking forward to what we’re going to learn this year with Apologia!! (we’ve already taken the book to the beach!!)
I highly recommend Apologia science to homeschool families! Even though the reading might seem intimidating (because it does require time) ~ it fills up those “quality time” love language hearts and builds lifelong memories.

We JUST ( as in a few minutes ago!) finished flying creatures! Whew! It was very tough slogging at first, but it got much easier toward the end. I’ll admit we didn’t do even half the experiments, but then I considered that most kids the age of mine (7 & 5) barely do any experiments and decided to let it go. We’re looking forward to starting swimming creatures next month…after a break!
Doesn’t matter. Whichever notebook I got, I’d have to order the other one so my two boys could do the book together.

I would go for the JR Notebook. We did Astronomy last year and the girls loved it. Just got my Botany in the mail yesterday actually and looking forward to starting on Monday!

My third homeschooled child did all the APologia younger science books ( int he days before notebooks), Eldest ddid the igh school courses. Youngest has just completed the human body younger science text and has asked to do swimming creatures this fall. I would say she would use the regular notebook… what keepsakes those notebooks make !

We love Apologia too!! We started with the Land Animals book as we live near an awesome Zoo and have season passes! The kids (grade 5 and 3 plus a tag along 3 year old) LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! We use lapbooks though I have never tried the notebooks.
I would LOVE to have this for our homeschool. We are new homeschoolers and will be using Apologia Science for the first time. Have heard nothing but great things about it, so I am very excited to see what all the fuss is about. I am also in the process of starting a homeschool co-op in my town, so this would be great to help get started. And it wouldn’t matter which book we started with. I have 4 kiddos who love science.

We are using Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day this year, and it’s our first experience with Apologia. We started at the beginning of June because we live in the frozen north and it’s nice to study insects while there are insects to be studied! My kids are loving finding insects to show me. If we won, we’d like to try the junior notebook.

I have been looking into a Science curriculum for my 5 and 7 year old boys. Someone suggested Apologia so I was on the hunt for reviews when I stumbled upon this on Twitter! I would be happy with either book since I am SO new to Apologia and don’t know what the difference is.
