This week we are exploring a southern European country … GREECE!
Just as Germany = nazi, now Greece = mythology.
I had to show the boy not only did Homer share some great myths but there were many “thinkers” that shaped history. We learned the difference between mythology and philosophy. We had fun playing with Greek letters – the boy immediately pointed out God being the Alpha & Omega. He drew columns (finding them in our neighborhood), and created his own set of gods and drama.
We watched the swimming Olympic trials and discussed the first Olympics. The boy was surprised the prize was only a crown of “weeds”. But thankfully it has inspired him to join his swim team again – which means daily exercise and 2 hours of uninterrupted time with little man!
Greece is an interesting place with a lot of coast like our home state but a much different terrain than what we are used to seeing! We both agreed the Greek Islands look like someone sneezed.
Such a wealth of information tucked into Greece … I think we’re going to camp out here another week!

What great notebooking and learning about Greece!
It is a fascinating country that has contributed so much to our world. My husband’s family is Greek. If you need some simple, yet tasty recipes to add to your Greek studies, let me know. I’m happy to share.
oh how interesting !!
Love the little arrows from his descriptions to the pictures! I can’t believe you tried to do Greece in a WEEK?! We spent 3 months on Greece a couple of years ago. Nice notebook pages though!
Yes, we’re doing all countries in a week – were not going in depth as much as location and tidbits to learn Europe as a whole.
My kids draw the same parallels about certain things too. Right now the big one is “if the flag is flying, then you won the battle.”
